Since its inception, Summit has invested more than $1.8 billion in distressed debt acquisitions, balance sheet restructures of operating companies, special situation capital, bridge loans and joint ventures.
Typical investments range between $1 million and $100 million with the flexibility to do larger transactions. Charles J. (CJ) Burger is a Founding Member and the President & Chief Executive Officer of Summit. He is responsible for overseeing the business development team. Prior to Summit’s inception, CJ was the Managing Director of the Special Assets Group at Republic Financial Corporation. CJ began his career as a Staff Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in New York before taking a role as a Senior Vice President with Fleet Bank in Rhode Island.
CJ holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from New York University and is a past board member of the Colorado Turnaround Management Association (TMA).

Patrick joined Summit in 2015 and is Chief Investment Officer and Head of Underwriting. Prior to Summit, Patrick spent a majority of his career as a restructuring focused investment banker at Miller Buckfire and a middle market private equity investor at Key Principal Partners (currently dba Cyprium Partners). Patrick also has additional experience as a Director in Corporate Strategy at Ameriprise Financial, a publicly traded asset and wealth management company.
Patrick holds a BA in Management from St. John’s University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

As Chief Operating Officer for Summit, Brian is responsible for overseeing the coordination of the company’s various business units. He previously held the role of Head of Underwriting. Prior to joining Summit in 2009, Brian was a Partner with private asset-based lender, Western Capital Partners. He spent the early part of his career in the equity markets, working on the floor of the NYSE before leading a market making team at Knight Capital Markets in Chicago.
Brian holds a BA from Emory University and an MBA from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He is an active angel investor and advisor to a number of startups.

As Chief Financial Officer for Summit, Matt is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting and finance functions. He previously held roles on Summit’s underwriting and asset management teams, including Head of REO. Outside of Summit, which Matt joined in 2012, he has held leadership positions at private commercial real estate groups, where he focused on acquisitions, asset management and development projects.
Matt holds a BA from the University of Florida and an MBA from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he also teaches an undergraduate real estate finance course.

Robert Milam joined Summit in 2018. His responsibilities include business development, deal sourcing and underwriting. Robert served most recently in a deal sourcing role for Bayside/HIG Capital. Prior to that he held various leadership roles in the Special Assets Departments at TD Bank, Regions Bank and SouthTrust Bank.
Robert holds a bachelors degree in finance and a MBA from the University of Alabama. Robert is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association.

Ajay Bajaj is a Managing Director and Head of Real Estate at Summit; and has been with the firm for over 10 years. Ajay has over 20 years in real estate and corporate finance. Ajay came to Summit from Western Capital Partners where he was the Regional Manager for the Rocky Mountain and Western Regions. Ajay has held finance and business development positions with CapMark, Cerner, and Oracle.
Ajay holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wichita State University. He enjoys spending time with family and hobbies include golf, cycling, skiing and other outdoor sports.

Turner Dietrich joined Summit in 2018 as a Senior Underwriter in Summit’s acquisition group. Before joining Summit, Turner worked for Republic Financial Corporation specializing in turnaround management of portfolio companies for 5 years. Turner is a Denver native and spends his free time golfing, skiing and attending professional and collegiate sporting events.

Catie joined Summit in August 2022 as a Director. Her responsibilities include deal sourcing, underwriting, and asset management. Prior to Summit, Catie spent eleven years at Wells Fargo primarily as a member of the Credit Resolution Group focused on distressed credits.

Sandy Joined Summit in 2022 as Managing Director Acquisitions and his primary responsibility will be business development and deal sourcing. Prior to Summit, Sandy spent twenty-two years in the distressed and restructuring space working through complex Bankruptcies and turnaround situations. Sandy is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association, American Bankruptcy Institute and the Secured Finance Network.

David is head of the Summit Investment Management and Keen-Summit Capital Partners Chicago office. He responsible for all aspects of business development and execution in connection with the company’s distressed debt acquisitions and opportunistic credit transactions, plus real estate brokerage and auction, investment banking, and lease modification and restructuring services. David has more than 13 year’s experience in real estate advisory and transaction experience, with particular expertise in workout, bankruptcy, and other special situations. David holds both the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) designations, making one of fewer than fifty professionals in the United States to hold both. He is a frequent speaker and moderator on real estate restructuring programs, a member of the Turnaround Management Association Chicago/Midwest Board of Directors, and has held various leadership roles on the American Bankruptcy Institute Real Estate Committee.

Jeff joined Summit in 2023, and is a Managing Director, Distressed Credit Sourcing. Prior to Summit, Jeff Served as a Distressed Credit Sourcer at Marblegate Asset Management, A ~$2.5BB Asset Manager, from September 2019 through September 2022. Jeff spent the majority of his career on the distressed trading desks at JPMorgan Securities and Citigroup Global Markets as a credit salesperson. Jeff also was the Head of Loan Sales at BBVA Securities.
In addition, Jeff clerked for the Honorable Marvin A. Holland, Federal Bankruptcy Judge, Eastern District of New York. Jeff also has additional experience as a corporate restructuring attorney working at Weil, Gotshal and Manges, Fried Frank and Marks and Murase.
Jeff holds a BBA with a focus on accounting from Hofstra University and a Juris Doctor from the Hofstra University School of Law. Upon graduation, Jeff received a Citation of Excellence for Corporate Law Classes and a Citation of Excellence for the Benjamin Weintraub and Alan N. Resnick Bankruptcy Law Award.

Warwick rejoined Summit as a Managing Director in 2020 to assist in various capacities including deal sourcing, underwriting and assisting with the firm’s real estate strategies.
Prior to rejoining Summit, Warwick led CBRE’s equity platform for the Western US. Before that he spent five years in New York City helping build the U.S. real estate platform for the Bank of Ireland.
He started his career as an intern with CBRE and served in various roles within CBRE/New England. Warwick is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
